Wickes Saving Hacks & Tips
Driver properly helped me out
I was stressing a bit because I had no chance of shifting the heavy stuff myself. But the Wickes delivery driver just got on with it and placed everything exactly where I needed, really carefully too. I actually stood there thinking, oh wow, that was so much easier than I expected. Properly grateful.
Nice install, rubbish follow-up
When the Wickes install was finally done I actually stood there thinking, right, looks good, thank god that’s over. Then a couple of small bits needed fixing and that’s when it all started doing my head in. Nothing massive, just the sort of stuff they should sort quickly, but trying to get proper follow-up felt like pulling teeth. I went from being pleased with it to muttering about it every time I walked past. The install looked decent, but the aftercare really took the shine off it.
Kitchen fit went smoother than expected
Had our kitchen done through Wickes and it was a bit of a relief. The designer, fitter and store all seemed to be on the same page, so I wasn’t constantly chasing people. After the first couple of days I just stopped worrying and let them get on with it.
Click and collect was a lovely little win
Used Wickes click and collect and it was such a relief. I got there expecting a bit of waiting about, but my order seemed to be ready already and I was back in the car in minutes. I actually smiled to myself driving off because it was just that easy.
Late delivery threw the whole weekend off
I’d got the tools out and cleared the space ready to start, then the Wickes delivery didn’t turn up when it was meant to. We’d planned the whole weekend around it, so I ended up just standing there checking my phone for updates and getting more annoyed. One delay and the whole job was basically done for.
Boards arrived damaged
I’ve used Wickes before and never really had an issue, so I thought it’d be fine. When the delivery came I started checking the boards and straight away noticed a few corners were bashed and there were marks on them. I just stood there thinking, great, I need these today and now I’m messing about with damaged stuff I’ve paid delivery for. Not what I expected at all...
Got everything in one go
Popped into Wickes for some paint and a few screws thinking I’d end up needing another stop after, but nope, found the lot quickly. I actually sat back in the car like, “well that was easy,” and headed straight home to get on with it. For normal DIY bits, it’s just been a proper handy shop for me.
Refund took ages
Ordered from WICKES and the refund process did my head in. It wasn’t clear what was happening, so I ended up checking my bank every morning like a mug, getting more wound up each time. It did come back eventually, but why make it feel like a guessing game?
TradePro actually feels worth it
I signed up for TradePro after stood in Wickes with a basket full of bits again, thinking right, this is getting silly now. The discount popped up at the till and I did that daft little grin at the receipt like I’d won something. It’s not massive every time, but when you’re in there as much as I am, it definitely starts to feel worth it.
Paid for something they didn’t even have
I ordered on wickes.co.uk and paid, so I thought that was it sorted. Then I get a message saying the item isn’t actually available. I just sat there like, why take the payment then? Other DIY sites I’ve used usually get the stock right before checkout. Not the end of the world, but it proper wasted my time.
Bit hit and miss with Wickes
I’ve had a few Wickes orders now and it really seems to depend on the branch. One time the staff were spot on and I was in and out quickly, but the next delivery was a faff and I ended up chasing it around instead of getting on with the job. I still use them if they’ve got what I need, but I don’t really relax until the stuff actually turns up.
Really helpful for a quick DIY fix
Popped into Wickes for what I thought was a simple DIY job, then immediately realised I wasn’t 100% sure what I needed. A staff member talked me through it without making me feel daft, and I ended up grabbing the right bits in about five minutes. I actually said “thank god for that” in the car because I’d have been wandering those aisles forever.
Ended up being worth it
Popped into Wickes for a few DIY bits thinking I’d just price check, but I actually grabbed everything there. It wasn’t rock-bottom cheap, but it was fair enough, and on the drive home I was quietly pleased I hadn’t spent half the afternoon running around to save a couple of quid.
Turned up when they said it would
Ordered a load of bulky stuff from Wickes and I was half expecting the usual delivery faff. But it actually came on the day they said, which made me oddly relieved. I had the job planned around it, so I just made a cuppa and got on with it instead of chasing updates all morning. Would use them again for that sort of thing...
Delivery just dumped in the worst spot
Had a bulky order from Wickes delivered and they left it in such an awkward place. I just stood there looking at it thinking, great, so now I’ve paid for delivery and I’m the one doing the hard bit. Took me ages to shift it all without scratching stuff or doing my back in. Proper annoying.
Return was a pain
Tried to return something to Wickes after opening it to check it properly, and got told they couldn’t take it back because it was opened. I get there are rules, but I just stood there thinking, of course, another thing to argue about after a long day. Not a disaster, just really tiresome.
Bathroom fitting turned into a headache
Had Wickes do a bathroom fitting and it just wasn’t finished properly. I remember standing there looking at it thinking, how is this done? Then it was repeat visits, more calls, more waiting on hold. After paying all that money I shouldn’t have had to chase them like that. I’d think twice before letting them handle anything in my house again.
Kitchen dragged on and no one seemed to own it
Our Wickes kitchen was meant to be done much sooner, but it dragged on for weeks and we were stuck making toast and washing mugs in the bathroom sink. I kept ringing for updates and every time it was a new person, same story from me, no proper answer from them. After the third or fourth call I just felt like putting the phone down and giving up. If you need your kitchen sorted without weeks of messing about, I’d think twice.
Missing item held everything up
Ordered from Wickes and of course the one bit I actually needed was missing, so the whole job just stopped. I barely even looked at the rest after that, just stood there checking the boxes like I’d missed something. Had to keep chasing customer service too, and the replies were so slow. when there’s work sat waiting to be finished, it’s the last thing you need...
Saved me mid-job
I was right in the middle of a job when I realised I’d forgotten a couple of bits, proper heart-sink moment. Checked Wickes and my local store had them ready the same day. I sort of just stood there for a second like, thank goodness, because I really didn’t fancy leaving everything half-done. Picked them up and got straight back to it.
Returns were way easier than I expected
Took a few unopened bits back to Wickes in the original packaging and I’d already sort of braced myself for a faff. But nope, the person at the counter just checked them, tapped a few things, and it was done. I actually walked out smiling a bit because I’d expected it to be annoying. Nice when it’s just simple like that
Really impressed with the kitchen design help
I went into Wickes not really knowing what to expect, but the kitchen designer started sketching out layouts we’d never even thought of. I actually caught myself grinning because it suddenly felt like, yep, this could really work. Made the whole thing feel way less chaotic.
Stock info was useless
Checked wickes before leaving and it said my local store had it in stock. Drove over, walked round the aisle, asked someone… nothing. Just stood there thinking, brilliant, that was a pointless trip. Shut the site and went home
Thought it would be smoother
I was proper looking forward to getting it all done through Wickes, especially with an approved installer. Had the kettle on and everything, thinking it’d be nice and straightforward. But when the installer turned up, it just felt a bit off from the start. Not awful, just not great. Made me realise the whole thing really depends on who you get on the day...
